Scott Ferreira went onto his first concrete crew in 1998, and 19 years between that and the license were spent on the coast, where a slab lives with salt and sand. One habit from those years governs every job here. The batch ticket on each truck is read against the estimate before the chute comes down, because a mix weaker or wetter than ordered fails early, and by then the ticket is gone.
Two decisions on every job are his alone, made before a form is set. The first is where the slab ends, because on the coast the edge fails first, at the coping of a pool, the apron at the street, the line where new meets old, so he sets the isolation joints and thickened edges himself. The second is the sealing date, written on the estimate.
