The 405 is the line between Westminster and Huntington Beach, and nothing about the ground changes at it. The tracts either side went up together, on the same silt, under the same damp morning air.
Westminster sits on the low plain the Santa Ana River laid down, a few dozen feet above the sea and a few miles from it. The soil is a fine silt with sand in it that drains on top and holds water underneath, and the west end of the city toward Bolsa Chica Road is the lowest ground of all.
